Sunday 2 September 2018
Old Freemen’s: 106-5
Sunday XI: 107-2 (Cowie 73*)
A stunning September afternoon saw Headley play host to Old Freemens, followed by an impromptu BBQ, beers and the debut of a new boom box that blasted an eclectic mix of 80s club classics, Jason Derulo and Coldplay over the surrounding area.
Old Frees had just 8 players, so a shortened T20 game was agreed, with two Headley players nominated to bat at 9 and 10 for Old Frees if required. A negotiated toss saw Old Frees bat first and their strong opening pair initially looked like they would post a decent total, with Ruddeger (30) in particular smashing it round the park. However, a comedy run out saw him removed at 50-2 and from that point on Old Frees struggled to accelerate. Their eventual total of 106-5 looked light and would probably need only one Headley batsman to come off. Fortunately for the following BBQ that was No.1 Barney Cowie who smashed 73* in a total of 107-2 off 12 overs. For the record three other batsmen accompanied him with the most notable assistance coming from Bobby Barton (10) before he was brutally triggered by Dad Steve.
Headley have just two more games left; playing Warlingham next week, followed by a decent season closer against Kensington – all players and supporters welcome to try and round off the season in style – hopefully the weather holds!
