South Park Manor 1st XI v HOF 1st XI; 1.30pm @ South Park Manor
HOF were sent into bat on a pretty good looking wicket but with an outfield that had not been cut for sometime. Camp got off to a flyer hitting a quick 8 off the first 3 balls but then trying to go for another big hit edged one to 1st slip. As the score moved towards 50 O’Connor was bowled for 20 and was shortly followed by Hufton. James Moss entered the match for what would prove to be a fine innings. Jeff Haywood departed for 33 after middling the ball towards extra cover where it was taken by a very fine one handed catch. Holliday and Tim Jarrett departed having added just 5 runs collectively. With the score at 97 for 5 off 30 overs Moss raised the level with a series of fine shots. Together with Andy Pickering, they put on 128 off 16 overs at 8 an over. Moss finished the 46th over with a flurry of sixes and on 119 not out, with Pickering on 12 not out and the declaration total on 225 for 7 wkts.
Noble and Hufton opened the attack against South Park’s openers. With the pace of Noble from one end and the accuracy from Hufton, HOF were keeping the pressure on and it was a matter of time before one of them struck. Noble did by taking out the middle stump, only to find that he had no balled. Two balls later and the same batsman edged the ball just past Tom Haywood at third slip. In Noble’s next over he could have had him again on what would have been a fantastic caught and bowled. With the pressure on they went after Hufton and hit one straight down Camp’s throat after he was moved to deep mid-on the ball before. A few overs later Hufton struck again and the other opener hit the ball hard straight at Jeff Haywood at mid-off. South Park were now 41 for 2. Pickering replaced Noble and struck straight away with Tom Haywood collecting the catch at deep Mid-Wicket. Hufton took out the off stump to collect his third and South Park were now 65 for 4 and in danger of being bowled out for under 100. 17 runs later and a bowling change brought South Park’s 5th wicket with a brother combination of Tom Haywood bowling and Jeff taking a catch on the run. South Park then went into their shells and with their skipper at one end they began to block out. By 40 Overs South Park had reached 103 for 5 and then hit out to end the match on 130 off 44 overs. HOF picked up 17pts for the Winning Draw. HOF 225-7, South Park 130-5, HOF Winning Draw 17pts to South Parks 4 pts.
