Old Freemens – 120 all out (Midmer 6-21, T.Barton 1-12, S.Barton 1-15)
Sunday XI – 121-3 (Calvert 42)
As the season nears it conclusion one expects the weather to become more challenging, but after a glorious Saturday the hopes were for a decent end of summer day. Unfortunately the weather gods chose to turn the drizzle on as the game started and to slowly open the taps as the 35 over game progressed. It is testament to the resolve of both sides that a game was played let alone finished.
Headley for once started in the field and for a few overs the OF’s batsmen mastered the conditions and reached 20 without loss before skipper Midmer found his straps and proceeded to tear into the early order batsmen with an impressive display of swing bowling supported by some rare decent catching. With OF’s languishing at 60 for 6 Midmer then added to his tally with a high quality run out assist. With Headley bringing the changes to the bowling OF’s limped to a potentially defendable 120 after a decent last wicket stand despite more quality bowling from young Ty Barton.
Post-tea the conditions can only be described as even more challenging for both batsmen and fielders but Headley got stuck into the OF’s bowling with Henry Calvert (42) particularly effective on anything loose. Following his departure both Faz Ahmed (32) and debutant Jack Curtis (25) continued the efficient chase and it was all over withing 20 overs allowing the players the chance to dry off and look forward to 2 remaining games in conditions appreciably more clement.
