Sunday XI vs Nutfield – Match Abandoned due to rain with Headley 125-7
Torrential rain forced play to be abandoned up at Headley this Sunday with Headley on 125-7 batting first. The game had started in bright, sunny conditions but a dark cloud loomed ominously up over the hill as Headley made heavy weather against Nutfield’s strong pace attack. Chairman Andrew Pickering fell to the first ball of the match attempting something ambitious, and Henry Calvert followed soon after. Steve Barton (48) struck some fierce drives at No.3 supported by breezy cameos from Barney Cowie and Steve Winslet, but when all three of these batsmen fell, quickly followed by Lee Dickinson and Grant Waller, it was James Midmer (32*) and Bobby Barton (4*) in rebuilding mode before a monsoon arrived. Headley were fielding a strong bowling unit, so the result wasn’t a foregone conclusion, but safe to say it was Headley who benefited more from the stoppage. Headley next week take on Woodpeckers.
