Sunday XI: 237-9 (Midmer 63*)
Woodlawn CC: 180 all out
The Sunday XI made it four wins in a row in what turned into a very long fixture against Woodlawn CC on Sunday. Headley lost the toss and were inserted. The pitch actually looked very good but the home side initially made heavy weather of it. Andy Pickering struck a breezy 26 but three key strikers in Henry Calvert (3), Jon Mottashed (12) and Steve Winslet (7) all fell to leave Headley 60-4 when a biblical shower hit the ground. After two hours delay and in treacherous conditions it was agreed that the game would continue, but Woodlawn lost their tight control with James Midmer (63*) and Steve Barton (49) taking full advantage to power Headley up to 237, with the final 3 overs disappearing for 37.
Woodlawn needed a fast start but instead could only limp to 17-2 off 10 overs, leaving an almost impossible task. Opener Atwood (82) then started to open up with some impressive shots, recording a strong third wicket partnership with Sharp (44), but tight spells from Tunnell and Midmer saw the required rate climbing all the time and, eventually, Steve Winslet took the key wicket of Atwood. From this point on a succession of Woodlawn batsmen came and went and the game eventually finished at 7:30, surely a new record! Headley next week take on Cheam CC.
