Welcome to the Headley Cricket Ground (HCG) – high up on Headley Heath and rumoured to be the smallest ground in world cricket!
Headley Cricket Club fields teams on Saturdays and Sundays.
On Saturdays, we play as Headley Old Freemen’s (a joint venture with local friendly Old Freemen’s CC). Headley Old Freemen’s (or HOF) fields a 1st XI and a 2nd XI, both of whom play in the Surrey Downs League. The 1st XI play in Division 1 of the SDL with the 2nd XI playing in Division 3. League games are played home and away, with the home games split between the Headley ground on Headley Common Road, and the Old Freemen’s ground at City of London Freemen’s School in Ashtead.
The club has a really friendly atmosphere with a number of talented cricketers. There is something for all abilities and the best point of contact is club captain Andy Brooks, with a contact form available through the Old Freemen’s website
On Sundays, we play just as Headley, with a setting (and some fixtures!) that haven’t changed in over a century. The Sunday XI is a social side who play friendly games against a mixture of wandering sides and local rivals. All our matches are played at home on Headley Heath; they start at 1:30 and are typically finished by 6:30 in time for some beer and sausages.
All ages and standard of player are welcome, we currently field players ranging from the age of 13 right up to 75, and abilities ranging from ex-league players to those who play very occasionally. If you are interested in joining up please email jamesmidmer@googlemail.
